Unlike most other areas of the law, Elder Law is defined more by the client to be served than the area of law to be addressed. While an Elder Law attorney may assist with planning for a transfer of assets upon death or planning for long term medical needs, the Elder Law attorney can and should assist with most other legal needs of the older adult.

Additionally an Elder Law attorney may provide counsel and legal advice to a family or family members on a variety of issues related to incapacity and incompetence.

Ms. Sharp has been privileged to advise individuals and families on a variety of issues that affect older adults, disabled adults, disabled children, and their families including guardianship matters; care and living arrangements; and issues arising under Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and Veteran’s benefits. She provides legal services relative to specific assets, including real property; and drafts wills, advanced directives, financial powers of attorney, health care powers of attorneys and trusts.

In addition to advising clients on incapacity and incompetence issues, Leslee serves as Guardian of the Estate to protect the assets of seniors or others who have been declared incompetent.  As one of five public guardians of estate, this is often as the request of the Wake County Clerk of Court.
